On December 1st 2015, Sophos BeLux organized its’ fourth Sophos Security Day at Living Tomorrow in Vilvoorde. We welcomed well over 100 visitors during this afternoon filled with current IT security topics and of course plenty of Sophos demonstrations.
What’s cooking at Sophos and your organization?
After the opening words of our country manager, Peter Magez who highlighted the growth of Sophos in the BeLux region as well as some of the findings from the BeNeLux public sector security survey conducted by Sophos, Vincent Vanbiervliet showed the audience what we’re currently up to at Sophos. He gave the audience an overview of our new XG series and the Synchronized Security Solution. But he also gave the audience a glimpse of our next data protection products.
Following Vincent, our director of product management for Data Protection, Anthony Merry, brought the audience up-to-speed on the latest status of the EU Data Protection Regulation and what organizations could do (*cough* encrypt *cough*) to comply to the new regulations and prevent towering fines.
Talking about Cloud & hacking the Internet of Things
We finished the day with two sessions. During a brief half-an-hour session, Lars Putteneers talked about and demonstrated the latest updates to Sophos’ fastest growing product; Sophos Cloud.
The day was eventually closed by James Lyne, Sophos’ Global Head of Security Research, with an interactive live-hacking demonstration of some connected devices. James demonstrated that some threats we see today, are actually very old recurring threats which still have success today. That is a very worrying conclusion. Here’s a brief snapshot of the presentation James gave (this is an excerpt of a session James gave at the Mobile World Congress):
- What’s cooking at Sophos by Vincent Vanbiervliet – Product Manager Data Protection at Sophos
- Prevent million dollar fines; what the new EU GDPR means for your organization by Anthony Merry – Director Product Management Data Protection at Sophos
- Sophos Cloud – breaking the stereotypes by Lars Putteneers, Sales Engineer at Sophos
Thank you and see you next year!
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all visitors and also our distributors, partners and customers for this successful edition of the Sophos Security Day. It confirms yet again that Sophos is growing and winning in the BeNeLux region and that we will do our best to set-up an even bigger and better edition next year!
