As a former editor of Naked Security, I am very sad indeed to see this, and think this is a short-sighted move. Killing off a well-known and hugely respected brand that not only paved the way for God only knows how many imitations but managed to stand out in a crowded field for the quality of its writing and content seems at best short-sighted and at worse just plain destructive.
Thank you to all the writers I learned so much from, both as a reader of NS and as a former editor.

For those that want it, there is a feed for the threat info on Sophos News (https://news.sophos.com/en-us/category/threat-research/feed) but the Naked Security feed will not be updated automatically to include this content.

This is great news for those workplaces that filter words like ‘naked’ in URLs. For clarification, which of the category options are those of Naked Security? Is Ducklin still going to post with the blog here with some type of tag?

Since his articles were the reason I was coming here every day, I guess that means I don’t need to come back here anymore.
It just seems silly to me that Sophos would simply terminate such a long-running and well-liked article series (maybe rename/rebrand it, but not outright terminate).

Is there an option for a daily newsletter for Sophos News? I rely on emails to keep up to date. I don’t have social media at work (something that was brought up previously) so I’d prefer to receive emails if possible. Thanks!

Yes, Sophos News does have a newsletter – you can sign up at the bottom of the page and select the topics you’re interested in. We publish several article a week, but not necessarily one every day.

Why no straight yes/no answers to the questions regarding the continuation of the Naked Security podcast and RSS feed?

After 149 episodes, season 3 of the podcast has come to an end. There are no immediate plans for a season 4, but that may change in the future.

As a home user I could understand almost everything that would concern me about my computer from the articles posted in the Naked Security newsletter.
But after looking at the choices for the current news emails there is nothing that I could understand enough to be helpful. Everything changes and I will really miss the NS newsletter in future.

I work in IT and I’m confused. What the hell is “#SophosLife” ? What is the difference between Threat Research and Security Operations?
I presume the “Global Security News” window at the bottom of Sophos Central is powered by the RSS feed and if so I guess that, too, will go. What a shame. As something I visit every (working) day this was a good way to keep in touch with important issues affecting endpoint security without needing to subscribe to yet another email newsletter.

Damon, the Global Security News window will be removed from Sophos Central in mid October. I am glad you found having the feed here useful and will pass on your feedback to the Central engineering team.
Threat Research is (mostly) insights from Sophos Labs into adversary behaviors and malware, while Security Operations focuses on providing intel for those detecting, investigating and responding to threats. #SophosLife shares more general, community-focused updates from the Sophos team.

Very disappointed. I don’t use Twitter nor have I have ever heard of Mastodon. I used to get my info from your emails and Facebook. I think you should reinstate a Facebook presence for those of us that try not to give our details to any more websites by subscribing. It’s such a great service you provide and you are cutting many of us off just as we need you more and even though we subscribe to your products.

It is a sad loss that you aren’t continuing to have him contributing in blog format or in podcast transcripts I can read (I don’t listen to podcasts). Naked security has always made things understandable and fun to read. Sad loss.

I mostly stay off/logged out of social media, listen to podcasts on my music player while working. I’ve been concerned about computer security for 30 years. Don’t trust cell phone security, and am usually in a rural cell-dead area. I’ll miss Naked Security and the wonderful Duck and team.

I tend to agree with others. I don’t use all of the social media stuff. I don’t like the way they abuse our data and privacy, and I don’t have time to wade through a bunch of different blogs and sites. This is what makes Naked Security so great, I get an email, once a day, with short descriptions and links to the articles in case I want to read more. I will hate to see it go. There are too many feeds, blogs, podcasts and more out there, that you can’t keep up with them all.
The Naked Security emails are something I look forward to seeing each day and I have encouraged home users, clients and other people, technical or non-technical, to subscribe because of how simple the articles are to read and understand. I told them that they can get a lot of easy-to-understand information and if there is more technical information, they can follow the links to learn more, when you have included them. Such a sad day.

Why? The daily email and the excellent podcast transcripts were a concise, often amusing and always educational one-stop highlight on security issues that anyone doing pretty much anything involving a computer-based device needed to know. No flannel, no waffle and written in a way that made even quite complicated issues remarkably easy to understand. A bad move and very, very disappointing.

I am very sorry about the shutting down of this blog. It was a freebie in the Sophos galaxy that I recommended to friends and at a few meetings where I happened to tell others about my experience with Sophos.
Its unique approach, authoritative, comprehensive and at the same time accessible, made it a pleasantly informative read.
I hope that Paul Ducklin will and can continue to do what he does so well on another blog and that can be summed up in the words that introduce his Instagram page, “My special skill is explaining complicated cybersecurity stuff in plain English so that everyone can understand it.”

It’s astonishing that Sophos is abandoning NS. One of the few voices in the Cybersecurity wilderness that was timely, knowledgeable, insightful, and served with humor. The only one of my many newsfeeds that I actually looked forward to reading.
I hope Paul will find a new platform worthy of his talent.
