Naked Security was back on Facebook Live earlier this afternoon, because today is Safer Internet Day, and we thought we’d join in with some advice of our own.
This time, instead of offering you a short list of tips to try, we decided to focus on just one thing in your internet life: the one component where we think you can reap the biggest online security and safety rewards.
(Click here if the video window doesn’t appear above.)
We’d still love to take your questions and hear your comments, either under the video on Facebook, or by posting right here on Naked Security (you may post anonymously).
(Just in case you don’t watch to the end – because of the questions we received, the video is fairly long at 30 minutes – we’ll tell you that you can buy your own T-shirts like the one in the video in the Sophos Store.)
If you’d like to see our Safer Internet Day advice from recent years, you’ll find it here:

- SID2015 – 3 questions you should be asking on Safer Internet Day

Was there a lip sync problem with your broadcast ?

Experience suggests that “your mileage may vary” and even if the stream is bad for some viewers it will be fine for others. (We can’t tell what quality people are getting because what we see while we’re filming – if that is still the word to use – is what’s being captured and recorded by the device we are using. The stream itself can be delayed by several seconds depending on where you are, because it has to get from us to Facebook for transcoding and then from Facebook to you.)
Fortunately, once the broadcast is done, the Facebook app uploads the saved video from the device and replaces the streamed one with the recorded version, so if you have trouble during the stream it is possible to catch up later…
…but thanks for giving it a go anyway :-)

When will the transcript of this video be available? I took some notes, but would like to present these ideas to my IT partner for upcoming information security training and would like more than my notes include. Thanks, I love this – so much better than “hover over the link”, etc.

Funny thing is that I have seen an error message myself…but on refreshing the page, the video appears. Latency, perhaps? Network timeouts? Cosmic rays?
