We’ve created a comprehensive library of “How To” videos to help you get the most out of your XG Firewall, including a series of Getting Started and Networking videos.
Today, I’d like to share a short Getting Started video that walks you through changing the default password for the admin account, and looks at how to manage device access, which is one of the first things you should do when setting up a new XG Firewall.
In this video, we’ll show you how to:
- Change the default admin password
- Navigate to the Device Access screen in the admin console
- Enable only those services you need in the appropriate zones to limit exposure
- Use the Local Service ACL Exception Rule feature for more granular access controls
- Restore the default password if you forget the password saved in your browser
You can watch the entire Getting Started video series on the Sophos Products YouTube channel. And you can check out all the posts in this XG Firewall “How To” series on the Sophos Blog.

VERY CONFUSING
Marshall
This video is outdated. There is no link to reset the admin password in the GUI of the XG.
Zach
Yeah they need to change this. Just make it easy to change the admin pass in the UI. Can’t be anymore more of a security risk than they just had.
Marshall
The link to change the built-in admin password is in the GUI on mine once again.
