For the second consecutive period, Sophos Endpoint Protection ranks first on the October/November 2013 AV-Comparatives performance test, earning the AV-Comparatives Advanced+ performance award.
This test looks at how endpoint security products affect a PC’s performance (i.e., speed). Sophos Endpoint Protection had the best (lowest) system impact score. Only two other antivirus products tested scored at the level of Sophos, out of 22 products tested.
As the report states, “it is important not only that antivirus software provides high detection rates and good protection against malware, but also that it does not degrade performance or trouble users.”
Sophos received the highest grade in all categories of the performance test, which measures a test PC’s speed in performing a variety of functions with the antivirus suite running: file copying, archiving/unarchiving, installing/uninstalling applications, encoding/transcoding, launching applications (opening Word and PDF files), and downloading files.
As you can see in the chart below, the products from McAfee and Trend Micro scored at the bottom of the scale, far below the performance of Sophos.
